Carolina's story

We were familiar with vision therapy as we had been through it with our oldest daughter.  But I had forgotten about the symptoms when I began teaching our last daughter to read.  She began just fine, and we knew she was smart, but then we started having more and more  frustration as the lessons got harder.  Fidgeting, wiggling, forgetting the word "the" from one line to the next, constant distractions, and oh, so slow!  I thought she was being lazy and just needed to try harder.  As I look back, I wonder what took me so long to get her evaluated!

In less than three months of vision therapy, her reading smoothed out dramatically!  The vision therapy exercises were fun to do, we looked forward to sitting down together, and I learned much about my child that I never would have noticed.  Ms. Carole is very knowledgeable, and really cares for my daughter and me.  She has given us many doable, realistic ways to work on skills using vision therapy equipment as well as common household items.

Just yesterday my daughter read all of Green Eggs and Ham to me.  She wanted to read the whole book, which contrasts sharply with five months ago when we struggled, and I mean stuggled, to finish even one page of an easy reader.  I cringe to think where we would be now with reading, if we had not known about vision therapy!  What would her future learning have been like?  What would our mother-daughter relationship have been like?  I have often thanked the Lord that we have access to vision therapy at Highline Center for Vision and Learning!
